Happy Back-to-School Season, Reading Friends!

I can't believe summer is already coming to an end! I wanted to pop in, say hello, and share a little update on what I've been working on over the past few months.

This summer has been one of learning, growing, and dreaming BIG.

I've spent countless hours writing and organizing what I hope will soon become my Reading Manual—a comprehensive guide filled with the strategies, systems, and instructional practices I've developed and refined throughout my years of teaching. My goal is to create a resource that helps teachers confidently build strong, independent readers while making data-informed instructional decisions that truly move students forward.

At the same time, I've continued building Educating Readers Literacy Academy, where my passion is helping struggling readers and students with reading deficits receive targeted intervention based on diagnostic assessment data. I firmly believe that every child can become a stronger reader when we take the time to understand where they are, identify what they need, and intentionally plan instruction that meets those needs.

One of the highlights of my summer was attending a Dyslexia Institute, where I learned even more evidence-based strategies to support students with reading difficulties. I am genuinely excited to head back into my classroom this year so I can put these new learning experiences into practice with my students. There's nothing like learning something new and then seeing it make a difference in real classrooms.

As much as I love building my business, I'll always be a classroom teacher at heart.

I enjoy balancing both worlds because every day I spend with students helps me continue creating resources that are practical, meaningful, and grounded in what actually works.

As We Begin a New School Year...

One question I'm always asked is:

"Where do I start?"

My answer is simple:

Start by getting to know your students...and just as importantly, get to know them as readers.

Understanding their reading identities, strengths, challenges, interests, and instructional needs lays the foundation for everything else you'll do throughout the year.
